10.02.2014

We're exactly a week away from the Tomorrowland panel at New York Comic Con, and we would like to give an idea of what we expect to see - and details of what we will be covering for Tomorrowland Times.

Thursday, October 6th - 1:00 PM (10:00 AM Pacific) - Tomorrowland Panel

The panel itself will be held at 1:00 EST, which is 10:00 AM Pacific time. We know that the panel will feature Big Hero 6 and Tomorrowland. The panel itself lasts about 90 minutes - so we can hopefully expect about 45 minutes of content about the film.

Brad Bird (director/writer) and Damon Lindelof (writer) are confirmed to be on the panel. Sometimes at presentations like these, it's not uncommon for them to bring out a special guest, a star of the film. However, this has not been confirmed.

Based on rumors and the Destination D event in November - we assume that we will be seeing an early cut of some of the 1964 World's Fair content. We're expecting this to be an early teaser trailer, that may debut in front of Disney's Alexander and the No Good, Very Bad Day - or before Disney's Big Hero 6.

In general, Disney does not do exclusive footage at these events, generally uploading the content (or trailer) to YouTube a day after the event. However, with the secrecy of Tomorrowland, we do not know if that will be the case. Filming is generally not allowed at these types of panels.

We do not know if, like the D23 Expo 2013 film presentation, it will be presented 'in character' by Lindelof and Bird. At the expo presentation, they made a big effort to show off The 1952 Box, and present the items in that box as the 'inspiration' for the films, including an animated short about the Plus Ultra society.

Tomorrowland Times will be in line as early as we can for the panel - so expect full coverage and report during the panel on Twitter, and here after we've had a chance to collect our thoughts.

Thursday, October 6th - Show Floor - Preview of Before Tomorrowland Book

At the Disney Publishing booth, we may also get a preview of the prequel book, Before Tomorrowland. As indicated on it's Disney Book Press catalog, they will "preview at NYCC 2014 and feature at SDCC 2015". We'll be sure to do a full writeup of whatever the Book Group decides to preview.

We'll be live-tweeting as much as we can from the convention. Be sure to follow us on twitter @TheTomorrowTime for all the latest Tomorrowland news from New York Comic Con.

Friday, October 7th - Fun at Flushing Meadows (the site of the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair)

Since we'll be in New York, it would be a missed opportunity to not check out the site where a part of the film takes place, Flushing Meadows. Flushing Meadows was the site of the 1964 World's Fair, and some of the buildings and landmarks still stand (such as the iconic Unisphere).

We know that several key scenes take place at the fair, including the fictional Hall of Invention (which has doors that match the Disneyland Tomorrowland television show opening), an assumed chase through it's a small world, and scenes from the Carousel of Progress. As explored in The Optimist viral marketing, we know that Plus Ultra had a hand in the fair, where it's a small world contained a portal to another dimension, and the Carousel of Progress had a alternative VIP script explaining the wonders of this new futuristic place.

We'll also be visiting the Queens Museum which has a large World's Fair collection - and exploring all the fun of (what's left) of the fair!

Join us Thursday and Friday! We'll be live-tweeting as much as we can from the convention. Be sure to follow us on twitter @TheTomorrowTime for all the latest Tomorrowland news from New York Comic Con.
