While we wait with bated breath for the first TOMORROWLAND teaser, some news from the publishing world:
An Amazon listing describes a 288-page hardcover novel (with full-color comic book insert) titled BEFORE TOMORROWLAND. It is authored by the film's screenwriters, Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird, and Jeff Jensen, and illustrated by Jonathan Case.
The official description reads:
The year: 1939. The place: The World's Fair. The people: A mother and son suddenly wrapped up in a conspiracy that extends beyond their wildest dreams.
Unlock the secrets of Tomorrowland with this original novel and full-color comic book insert.
A publishers note for the "Tomorrowland Deluxe Original Novel," adds:
This deluxe novel dives into the history and ancient conspiracy behind the world of Tomorrowland with an action-packed original story. It includes a 20-page full color comic insert, bringing to life a comic that plays an integral role in the plot. Written by the film''s writers, Brad Bird (The Incredibles), Damon Lindelof (Lost), and Jeff Jensen (Entertainment Weekly), this book is perfect for fans of Tomorrowland and fans of science fiction and alternative history in general.
The only other detail known about the book is its size, clocking in at a petite 5.5 x 8.25 inches. It will be the first of two (currently) confirmed book tie-ins, the second a 160-page junior novel with 8-page photo insert.
It sounds as if this book will further explore the extended world of the film, as first introduced in The Optimist.
Could the book contain meta-textual puzzles and ciphers in the vein of the recent novel "S." from J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst? Considering Lindelof is a frequent collaborator with Abrams, and the "Unlock the secrets" description, this certainly seems possible.
To dig in and find out, we'll have to wait until the book is released on April 7, 2015.
